Kate has written gothic novels, cemetery guides, magazine features, long form non-fiction and academic papers.
From magazines to online content and from pamphlets to books, Kate is experienced in writing for a host of audiences and budgets. As a storyteller and educator, she is passionate about making difficult, strange, or forgotten subjects accessible and engaging. Her academic work is similarly thorough and clear, with a strong body of independent research underpinning the overall project.
Kate has a professional background in writing about paranormal history, Spiritualism, occultism, magic, Victorian gothic, 19th century death cultures and British folklore. Recent magazine publications have included Fortean Times, Spectral Lines, Haunted Magazine and various Future Bookazines including Paranormal Britain and All About History’s Guide to Cryptids. Her gothic novel Begotten was published in 2025 and her forthcoming work Memorials to the Dead is scheduled for publication in June 2026. She has short stories published in various international collections, edits the anthology Not of this Wold (Weird Lincolnshire Writing) and has multiple academic chapters due for publication by Palgrave and Bloomsbury. She edited the popular work of music history, ‘Art of Darkness’ by John Robb and has maintained the blog, BurialsAndBeyond.com since 2017.
